Alt 1m dlg nice!

really nice kit. not beginer friendly but very nice to build if you have a little building experiance under your belt. could benifit from a clear instructions but its pretty stright forward. the lazer cutting was more or less perfect.. maybe a touch of over burn in places but only amounted to a bit of scorching. the online instructions are basicaly missing the most complicated bit but a bit of searching around should help with setting up the controls.. all in all very well made and good looking kit. hopefuly will get to fly it soon.

Kit arrived in two days to the USA. Kit is perfectly die/laser cut and going together nicely.

Golly gosh ....

If you're hesitating, jump straight in .... the kit's wonderful.

It's been many years since I built from a kit, my last efforts were of the Veron and Frog sort, so this one came as a revelation. Incredible balsa and not a crushed or mangled edge in sight, the cutting was perfect. I'm about halfway through so I've a way to travel yet but it goes together like a well made jigsaw, for a nearly novice there's a few mysteries but the build log here and cogitation over a pot of tea will solve those .... I can't believe that my finished fuselage weighs only 39 grammes, I've probably folded paper darts that were heavier ..... roll on some dry days, but first a few wet ones please, so I can finish the Alt bird free of guilt.

I haven’t started building yet but the quality of the die cut pieces and quality of the wood seems to be of a high quality.
The online instructions are also very good.
Looking forward to getting started and flying this model.

Alt 1m DLG review

I haven't quite finished making it all yet, but it's been good fun to build so far and the kit seems like good quality and the laser cut parts are nice and fit well. If you haven't made one before then the build guide is really helpful. I could have done with that when I was building it but couldn't access it at the time on my iPad. I made a bad mistake, cutting the same carbon rod twice, oops, and making it too short but I think I've managed to rescue it lol.

Great Kit, have a question about airfoil.

Great value for a well-designed 1M DLG. Good quality balsa and cutting. I notice the airfoil listed in the description is listed as an MH32- I don't think that's right. I took a few measurements and compared them to a few common DLG airfoil profiles, and it seems this wing is much closer to a Drela AG03 foil rather than an MH32. It's even thinner than an AG37. Maybe a typo, or the kit was upgraded? Either way, I'm not complaining since the MH32 would be suited to a much larger glider anyways. Thanks!

Fantastic

Great service. Very fast delivery. Haven't finished building the kit yet but I can tell that it's going to be a great model. Very enjoyable build as well.

Fantastic DLG! I built this in a couple of days over Christmas and it flys really well! I used the recommended RC gear listed and it fit’s really well. Flying weight came in at only 171 grams and yet it can cut through the wind with ease. On top of the awesome customer service and delivery speed you simply can’t go wrong.

excellent prompt service (as usual ! ) Can't yet comment on the Alt kit as it will be a few weeks before I start the build. Kit looks to be good.

lot of fun

not the easiest build for me (but i am a beginner with balsa kits, and absolute first time with DLG) but very rewarding.
the trimming of the tension of the strings for the actuators was the hardest part.
very agile in air

I built this glider during the first lockdown, I didn’t get it to fly very well it turns out down to my lack of experience. I attended a intro to dlgs at Buckminster last year and learnt a huge amount.

Today I flew the Alt again this using some of the knowledge I gained after a morning flying what a great little glider. This is what transformed it was have a launch program in my transmitter that controlled the rudder and elevator when I launched it. I can see this being a favourite glider.

Alt DLG built by Nick

Having not built a sticks 'N' glue model for a very long time and having
M. S. I was dubious about this purchase. However the build was not difficult at all even with my disability (shaking hands) it went together with ease, tricky bits including threading lines to control surfaces and the springs there in.
Build was made easy by the excellent ALT. Build log which I studied beforehand, but most helpful was the laser cut parts and high grade choice of timber. Timber cut from sheets suitable for purpose.Dont confuse this cutting with old die cut. All parts are perfect and need just a light sand to remove the tiny remaining tags holding it to the sheet.
In conclusion this kit was a pleasure to work on and covered with Oralite weight came out below (157.23 grams) the minimum weight of 198grms.also the wings finished perfectly true, I feel because of the excellent design. I would highly recommend the ALT. to anyone beginning or returning to this wonderful hobby...if at 64 I can you can.. Oh thanks Neil the hinge worked at treat.
Nick.

The perfect kit for a beginner

A friend of mine recommended this DLG kit, and I'm very pleased with it ! It was easy enough to assemble without prior experience in building balsa plane kits, and the glider is really easy to learn to pilot.
I'm really happy to begin my DLG experience with this plane !

Alt DLG

I have just completed the build and first flight of Alt DLG. Great kit. Everything fits. Fiddly in places as some parts are small, but never frustrating. A very satisfying first build after a 40 year gap.
It is strong, mostly surviving my novice nosedives. The tail is vulnerable, my first outing saw the lower tail sheer off at the boom. In the repair I am exposing more surrounding balsa and using epoxy, plus wicking some CA into the end fibres to stiffen the area. If it fails again, I will reinforce it, similar to the tail pedestal, with carbon or glass fibre.
I used bluebird servos, 500mah S1 and frsky Archer R4. The R4 fits the inside of the hatch perfectly (proud of this solution!). I routed the antenna through tiny holes drilled through the cover and out over (or tucked under) the wing.
I needed two, 50p pieces to bring the cog very slightly forward of the carbon rod, at least for the first outing in light breeze.
Most useful new tools? A set of small diamond files, used to fettle the wing balsa joints. I covered using hobbyking see-through, finish is acceptable for my first attempt.
Thanks to Neil at Hyperflight for great advice/gear, Andrew Newton's mindful YouTube RC guides, Vic Models for a fine kit, T9 Hobbysport for RC advice and kit Sussex Models for lots of other bits.
Buy one and have fun.

Really good DLG investment

I purchased two of these. One is stock and the second has ailerons. As ever Post and packing is super quick and reliable. This has turned into a great introduction in DLGs. Its a good quality kit, worth taking care on the wing.... my tips to follow the superb build log especially the guidance on prepping the ribs. Now that Lock-down is over, I have had a chance to fly these at our flat field. These are a dream to fly very little trimming required and directionally stable..... I can't wait to get these out on the slopes too .
(Paired to Blue Bell servos and a 1s lipo)

Great little kit, brilliant service

The alt kit is really well packaged. Really accurate laser cut pieces. Instructions on internet are good too

Alt 1M DLG

This is a great plane. Construction was straight forward. I did install 1.5mm carbon pushrods and micro control horns instead of the string/spring system. Even with the pushrods, total flying weight is 189 grams.
This is a great flying plane, it's my first DLG, and now I'm hooked!

Alt DLG

Interesting build, some new techniques needed which is nice. Everything of good quality and fits well. Easily balanced with no nose or tail weight needed.
Flies beautifully. All in all a great introduction to the DLG world!! A real bargain.
Highly recommended.

Quality.

A great quality kit, beautiful wood and really accurate cutting. Assembly requires care as some of the parts are delicate until firmly glued. I'm currently halfway through building so I cannot comment on flying, but from experience I have no fears in that area. All in all, well produced, well presented and a pleasure to put together.

Great dlg ki

Super kit. In the 70's I remember cutting out ribs from poor quality balsa in kits. This lazer cut stuff is great. This wing design of the Alt is amazing. Fits together like a jigsaw. Brill

Alt dlg

Purchased 2 Vick Alta from Neil @ Hyperflight. DLG kits are virtually non existent in the US. Neil so kindly put both kits in one box and saved me half the shipping.
The quality of the kits is amazing. The first wing half was a little fidgety to assemble took about two hours. The next three I got better on each one. The last one took about 45 minutes. The build log on referenced on the Hyperflight website is great, my only wish is they had taken fewer pics of each step of each wing rib assembly and givenore pics of final setup. Fuselage is very small and I could not get micro servos to fit any way I tried so I modified it by widening it by about 1 cm, now plenty of room. 2 micro servos, 6 ch Radiolink rec the heat shrink Ed model, and a Spectrum 300 mah 2s life battery all fit find. These are my retirement project planes. Hoping to get restarted in the rc hobby.
Overall great kits and Super service from Neil @ Hyperflight

Return to Silent Flight

What a great little kit. It has been a pleasure to build and I cant wait to get it in the sky.
There is alot of information available online so I could check my progress at each stage.
The frame has gone together straight and true and is bang on the nose at 148g though I may need a touch of trim weight.
A really cost effective way of getting back into this lovely hobby.

Alt DLG build

Great kit and overseas shipping was fast. This glider has a nice, rigid wing structure. Still finishing covering, my iron broke so I had to get a new one. A little confused by control string tensioner? I’m used to building models with conventional push-rods

Alt 1m DLG

It looks like a very nicely put together kit.
The build log looks good - hoping to get the time to put the model together soon.

Alt 1m DLG

Superb laser cutting of balsa parts. The build log is a bit long winded in places however most of the build is shown. Ideally I would have prefered instructions and a wing plan rather than have to download and print the A4 sheets to the correct scale and then tape them together.

Kit arrived very soon after order. the quality of materials, balsa and carbon is excellent and the build online build tutorial is extremely intuitive and simple to follow. post sales advice from Neil also very good indeed. thank you

I just finished building all the structure( wing,elev/stab,fin,rudder,and fues). It took about 3 days to build,a few hours a day.The wood is good and the laser cutting excellent. All the parts fit perfectly, very nice to build.Take your time lining up the wing ribs to avoid having to undo them.I fiberglassed the bottom of the fues and around the rear where the carbon boom exits.I also put carbon fiber on the rudder, fin, elevator and stab.I hope it flies as well as it was to build.Great bargain.

The kit arrived very quickly, 4days to the US in perfect condition. I have been building model airplanes for 70 yrs and am very impressed with the kit. It was in a nice box, good looking laser cut balsa and hardware. This is the 3rd kit I purchased from Hyperflight and all the transactions were perfect. Thank you Hyperflight.

All Built

Finnally got round to building the Alt Dlg. With help of build log, easy to build and almost perfect laser cutting. Trailing edge needed thin cyno to stiffen it up, everything else good. Perfect intro to DLG and building. Emax 4 gram servos are a squeeze and need lower cases removed to fit. AUW of 142 grams using a 2S 300 lipo and 2 gram regulator stock Lemon 6 ch RX... but it sadly needs 5 grams in the nose to balance, so 147 grams.

Hope this helps :-)

Alt DLG kit

Not a bad kit to build and OK flyer, had to put the servos under the wing to get a NiMH battery in and CG in right place. Some of the wood choices were odd - quarter grain for the trailing edge? The carbon boom on mine was split which I didn't notice until after I'd built it, Neil sent me some SC to repair it but it simply splits somewhere else next launch so will probably need to replace it at some point. But for this would have given it 4 stars.

Quick Delivery

Very quick delivery and yes it does come in a nice box.. with an interesting twist printed inside. I don't expect this model to be competitive, but it is good quality at a very good price. Build looks easy wirh lots of info on web. A great introduction to DLG or the art of balsa construction.
