Description

The Pug 2.1 is the latest version of Angelwing Designs highly regarded Pug mini glider. This versatile model can be discus launched (DLG), bungee/high start launched, or flown from the slope.

Angelwing Design are proud to introduce the Pug V2.1 Micro DLG. Retaining the same dimensions and outlines the Pug 2.1 was refined to fly better, look better, to build better, to reduce sanding. The totally revised the canopy hatch allows easier access to the RC. The prototype weighed 91g ready to fly with a full decal set, and really does not need to be any lighter.

The most striking changes are:
  • 1.5mm carbon rod trailing edge, this enhances the appearance, improves the wings overall strength and most importantly allows us to refine the wing section for even more efficient flight.
  • Resin Printed Horizontal Stab mount, pushrod guides, canopy retainer and Wing hold down brackets. The wing hold downs encapsulate a 3mm steel nut and completely eliminate the requirement to manually drill, tap and harden the threads in the previously used plywood plates.
  • Totally new canopy hatch, using a tongue lip at the front and a 6mm double magnet catch at the rear, eliminates the need for tape of flexing of the hatch to pop it on and off.
Now supplied with a multi purpose DLG/slope/flat field fin. There is also an optional V tail available as an add on. The V tail is great for slope flying and bungee launch but is not suitable for DLG launches.

Kit contains:
Pre Printed Wing Plan
Laser Cut Balsa and Plywood parts
Carbon Fibre Rod leading edge
Carbon Fibre Rod trailing edge
Carbon Fibre Tube Boom
Carbon Fibre Tube Spars
Piano Wire Elevator and Rudder Pushrods
SLA Printed Plastic parts
Magnetic Canopy hatch components
M3 Nylon Wing Bolts

Suits 2.5 - 5g Sub Micro Servos
Micro 4 to 6ch RX
RX battery round 15 to 25g (prototype uses a 2s 160mah Battery and Micro BEC)

We recommend Solite, Oralight or Feather Cover covering material for this model.

Mr

Found the kit to be very flimsy the carbon fibre TE is difficult to fit and some of the ribs do not reach the TE.A set of build instructions would be helpful as the online/utube instructions are for an earlier model.

Nice Little DLG!

Beautiful little 30" DLG. I was surprised that it is quite strong and launches rather well for a 3 oz, built-up glider. E Max 9251 servos fit well. I am using a 1s 380 lipo in the nose.

The kit is very well designed and crafted. The 3d printed parts make tail mounting and boom alignment very easy! Build is straightforward. Bargain price too. I'll probably build another.

On the downside, my kit was missing one of the 1.5mm carbon rods for the trailing edge. I sourced a replacement from amazon, but I had to order 4. Frustrating.

I used ultracote lite for my wing and twisting is a real danger/problem. It is workable but be careful!

good suport and great design

awesom little plane mine came out at 87g the suport from angel wings design is just the best just that the 3d printed parts were britle and i dont like the piano wire control rod i would prefer the string one and you should secure nicely the wing tip of the launch peg it can break if you dont treat it nicely apart from that the kit is wonderfoul and it flies great and its a good begginer plane i used elrs for mine with a radiomaster boxer and i used some emax es9051 servos and i had incredible range like 250 meters my max but i think i could go over 600 and more

Great glider, Brittle 3d printed parts

I found the Glider fun to build and seemed to be reasonably easy even for me a first time builder.
The Pug flies great and responds to very light lift conditions which is a blast, I was able to thermal it first day out!
Unfortunately, I found the 3d printed bits to be excessively brittle I broke one of the pushrod guides separating them, broke the elevator mount installing the elevator, broke the forward wing mount tightening down wing for the first time and finally the rear wing mount broke on the second day out during a slightly hard landing. My kit was also missing the carbon throwing peg.
Regardless the pug is a joy and I will likely be picking up a twisty soon enough!

Pug v2 a winner

I only got back into building and flying RC in the past 5-6 yrs. I absolutely love the modern balsa kits. Laser cutting is an amazing thing. One of my first scratch builds getting back into the hobby was a Carl Dowdy Bug. I have since built 10 or 12 Bugs or Lightning Bugs. Some were even pretty good flyers too. None as sweet as the Pug.
The little details like the 3D printed parts and carbon leading and trailing edges really complete this little floater. Granted, its not a composite bird that stays aloft on a puff of air, but then, it’s not really supposed to be. I did have a bit of an issue mating the wings but only because of my rush to get the little guy in the air. Maybe not a first build for a newbie to the hobby, but a straight forward and rewarding build for just about anyone else. I’ll be buying a second kit just to see if i can get everything right the second time. And Hyperflight? Wow, great service. I get stuff from the UK faster than anyone here in the US ships. Except maybe Amazon. Happy flying.

Nice and light little casual DLG and soarer

Well documented build instructions and quality parts. Also it looks estetically very nice.

I’m building the Pug2 to bring me up to speed with modern construction methods and materials - I built loads of balsa planes in my youth, before the days of superglue and CFRP.

The Pug2 kit is very good. Laser cutting is excellent, as is the balsa. So far, I’ve built the fuselage and one wing. But I’m finding it less straightforward than the various YouTube videos led me to believe - they tend to gloss over the awkward stages, such as bending the fuselage sides without damaging them. So I wouldn’t recommend this model to a complete novice. I’ll post an update when I’m further on.

Kit arrived in good condition I've not built a model for quite a long time . I thought it was a bit expensive but maybe it's that I'm out of touch with production costs these days !! The lack of an instruction sheet led to being a bit puzzled on some parts of the build. A quick check on the internet helped a lot . The laser cutting was a dream to work with . All in all an excellent kit . Looking forward to getting airborne !! . Thank you best regards Andy ..

Pug 2 Mini DLG glider.

I bought the kit off Neil after seeing his one being built and liked the idea of building it on the yacht I work on.
Last week I finally got into the kit as I ran out of things to do on my breaks and wow.
So I haven't built in a while, that has something to do with my work so when I started it I started with caution.
On assessing the kit, the laser cut parts are mint, really nicely cut with no bad bits of wood, the plans are basic, but they work and the carbon rods are in great condition.
During the build I never had any issues, the fuzz when together nicely, the 3d printed parts were a little rough, but went together well and the wings were a joy to build and even covering was great, just an ease to build in general.
All in all I really enjoyed putting the Pug 2 together, its a beginners kit, no nasty surprises as you build around the corners.
I am not too sure when I will get round to flying her, but I would recommend this kit to anyone, really fine glider to build.
Thank you Neil and I look forward to my next kit from you 😊.

Joli petit kit laser

Toute petite boite reçue assez rapidement, pièces bien découpées. Attention pour une livraison en France il y a des frais de douane ... ce qui finalement revient un peu cher pour si peu de balsa. Je monterai tout ca cet hiver.

Pug mini Dlg

I did a Maiden tonight with my Pug 2 Dlg. I bought it as a christmas gift from my wife.
To build the wings was very easy, nice balsa in the ribs and smart connection in the middle. I had some problem with the body, the plastic parts that led the wires to the rudder was to narrow so I could not move the wires. In the end I took a ligther and warmed up the wire and put it through.
I have not made any real test with my Pug, but after tonight I know it will fly. The feather cover was very easy to put on.
Sorry for my english

Pug 2 mini-Dlg - Fun build

A great, fun to build glider and re-introduction to the hobby. I wanted something small that can be flown in local fields. Great service from hyperflight with the delivery. I followed the manual very closely and it went together fine. The CNC cutting is superb! Even though the fuselage pod is "self-jigged" care still needs to be taken to keep it true. The wing went together well, just follow along with the manual. I covered the wing and tail feathers in transparent Oralight. I was concerned that it would be difficult covering the wing due to the small Carbon fibre Leading and trailing edges, but this was no problem. For extra strength I glassed the fuselage pod with light weight cloth and some old SP113 resin. Then gave 3 coats of filler primer, 3 coats of primer and a couple of coats of Halfords top coat, with lots of sanding in between, the pod now looks like it was moulded :-). The weight is around 95 grams. Still playing with the CG and now it has 3g in the nose (too far forward initially).

It would have been nice if some carbon fibre tows were included to reinforce the throwing peg as shown in the manual. Also, the control throws indicate that the rudder is around 2x the elevator's, so it may be advisable to use the innermost hole for the later.

This model fills the bill perfectly as an introduction to DLG that can be flown in local fields/small spaces.

Pug 2 Purchase

I have purchase two Pug 2 from Hyperflight and I am very pleased with the DLG and the very quick shipping and support. I had a broken part (my bad) and they connected me with the Pug 2 Manufacture for a placement part. Both the manufacture/designer Angelwingdesigns and Hyperflight support has been super.

Can't comment on the kit as I bought it as a present for my son for christmas (and due to Covid I haven't seen him to give him it) delivery was brilliant as always with Hyperflight.
