Impressive performerThe fit and finish of this model is excellent but some of the accessories are not really suitable for the job. The control horns are far too short. I made my own from .6mm fibre board. My horns are long enough to allow at least 80% of the servo available movement. Much taller than those supplied. The elevator horn I have fitted allows for 95% servo travel but that requires the rear of the fuselage to be sanded to allow clearance for the control horn. I used KST X08 servos in the fuselage and pulleys instead of servo horns on the rudder and elevator servos.
My model uses the 6 servo set-up and I used the tiny 6mm Chaservo for the ailerons. The problem was there is no hole for the servo lead. (Well there is but it is only about 40mm deep). That was a challenge but once resolved I was able make my own covers for the servo bay from clear plastic. There is just a small hole for the servo arm and it is otherwise completely flush. So all good in the end.
I used the 1806 Hyperflight motor and 28 amp ECU, 6x4 prop and a CN spinner. I filed a flat on the drive shaft and fitted a 3mm grub screw to the spinner prop blade holder. It makes installing the prop and spinner much easier.
I could go on about the construction/assembly of this model BUT in the end you will be rewarded with a really great little model that is remarkable for finding lift (and sink) and penetrates really well on a 2s 550mah battery.
This model for advanced builders only, in my opinion. Don’t attempt it otherwise or get someone who fits that description to do it for you.
In the end it’s a great little model. It is quite expensive for a small model but I really like it. Its small enough to stay in the car all the time.

One of the nicest DLG you will ownThe Max Flight F5K was the first elect. DLG I owned. I bought this plane to fly under the FAA 250-gram guidelines. When i saw how well it fly's I had to start up a collection. These planes fly and land on a dime. I have both 4 servo and 6 servo planes. The 4 servo turns faster than the 6-servo unit and they are both fantastic and led me down a long journey on exploring the world of elect. DLGS

en cuanto al armado del max f5k, creo que especialmente poner las lineas de control del estabilizador vertical y horizontal fue lo mas complicado, todo lo demás fue mas bien sencillo y rapido de realizar. lo recomiendo mucho es un lindo y buen planeador

Lovely model, some thought required in assemblyAs previous reviewers have noted, the MF5K is a lovely model. The fit and finish leaves nothing to be desired and the final product is a beautiful flier. On a warm autumn evening after sundown a few days ago, I consistently got 4 minutes or more on an 85m launch.
As previous reviewers have noted, assembly can benefit from some thought and planning ahead. Like others, I found the flapperon linkages to require particular attention. I opted to make my own control horns and pushrods, and to relocate the flapperon servos to the aft end of the servo bay. That cutouts in that bay seem designed for KST A08H servos.
The CG is another item that might need some thought. With a 1507 motor, PNC aluminum mount, and a 46g 3S 550mAh battery, I used 14g of lead to achieve a CG around 70mm. That's fairly reward and makes for a very responsive model but it works for my preferences. RTF weight is just a titch over 300g for my 4-servo version.
With my chosen power system and a 6x4 prop, max vertical speed is around 13m/s, which is enough to put a big grin on my face. After 60 seconds of total runtime, my 550mAh batteries come home at about storage voltage. Sixty seconds is enough for eight launches to 800-100m.

Max flight testSo I’ve finally flight tested my 6 servo version Max. First test glide I thought it wasn’t going to stop! It just kept going so I opened up the throttle and it shot up beautifully. It was a tad tail heavy and the elevator needed adjusting on the crow brake setting as it had a bit to much down in. So after correcting it, the second test flight (in minimal lift conditions) gave me a 23 minute flight! It just didn’t want to come down!! It’s a superb model and I love every second flying it. Yes the assembly can be a little fiddly but if you take your time you’ll be fine. I would totally recommend it.

Beautiful finishThe finish on the Maxflight F5K is outstanding and it is a beautiful model. I got the 6 servo model and am currently assembling it. There have been a few issues.
The fuse's molded-in servo tray for the tail & flap servos does not quite fit KST x08 servos & requires quite a bit of trimming to work.
One of the flap pushrods was about 1/4" too long. (Be aware that the 2 pushrods are different lengths to accommodate the servo positions on the tray. In my case, the long rod was too long.)
Do not glue in the flap horns where indicated by the manufacturer's stickers. Assemble the wing and use the flap pushrods to locate where the flap horns go.
The rudder & elevator control horn positions are accurate. I installed the elevator horn backwards from what I'm used to so the slot in the horn for the string faces to the rear of the elevator.
Threading the pull string through the bulkhead to the tail was challenging. I used beadalon wire and was able to thread a short piece through the bulkhead and pull it out through the side flap pushrod opening in the fuse. I then threaded the long wire from the rear of the fuse & also fished it out the side opening. I glued both the short & long wires together with CA, pushed them back inside and pulled the joined wire through the bulkhead and cut off the short piece of wire.
Voila!
One of my wings was pre-drilled for the aileron wire. The other was not. Ugh. I also needed to cut a slot in the fuse to thread the aileron wires through. My decision to use Jr servo extensions from the rx to connect to the aileron wires is proving to be a poor one as there isn't much room in the fuse for these. I may need to find an alternative.
I used the cnc electric dlg aluminum motor mount with the ArmSoar 1507 power train. This mount strengthens the nose of the Maxflight very nicely. I had to file the centre opening of the mount so I could squeeze the esc through. This motor sticks out beyond the front of the nose a bit (about 4-5mm) but I've decided I don't care. YMMV
Overall, I would recommend this F5K as a reasonably good value with the caveat that it may need a bit more work than anticipated.
As always, Neil's service is the best in the world.
I hope to update this review once the plane has maidened.

Controle hornsHi, just want you to take note to place the controle horns on 4x servo plane, 1mm to 2mm from hinge line on ailerons and the same for 6x servo on crow flaps, i made the mistake to make the slots as sticker indicated, but they were to far back. Can mount servos in fuselage with pushrods and then glue the controlhorns in place. It is a great plane and flys well in windy and calm weather

Beautiful!I was waiting for one of these to be in stock again. I particularly wanted the the multi coloured, 6 servo version. Although I won't build it yet, I had to put in my order.
As always, Neil's service is unmatched. Ordered just before 1pm yesterday, and then at about 2pm today the parcel with this beautiful f5k arrived, packaged safely in a strong box.
The quality of workmanship from our European friends is outstanding. Beautiful finish and such clever design. It's in a queue of builds, but will be looking forward to building this in the not too distant future.

Build NotesWhen I unboxed the Max Flight, the effort that had gone into designing and manufacturing it was very evident. It exudes quality. I chose this model as unlike most other manufacturers, it was designed with excellent regard to installing and accessing the servos. Given how light the airframe is, the general construction of the model is a lot more robust that I expected.
After planning the build, my first task was to do a small bit of fettling to the servo holes, which are pre prepared for KstX08. I just needed to ensure that wires would not be pinched and to create a bit more room for the control horns. Tool needed, decent diamond coated files. The servos fit into the frames using very small screws, fortunately I had a suitable 0.7mm drill bit.
I decided to use 0.7mm bowden wire to connect to the rudder and elevator as I want to be able to remove them for holiday transportation and this would be more durable and easier to handle than the supplied cord. This meant using different control horns. Rudder was the same pcb type but as I am a bit paranoid about elevator controls, I decided to fit a small brass MP Jet fitting, tiny but very robust and hidden by the rudder. The only difficulty I found with the R/E build was that it was very difficult to thread a wire or cord through both the front and rear "eyelets" for the rudder. Solved by removing the one in the servo bay.
I particularly wanted a 2 piece wing for transportation. I think that there are also storage and "hanger rash" benefits. Wing servo horns were easily installed by slitting the aileron skin in the premarked position, working some glue in and sliding the horns into place. Before fitting the horns, you need to suitably open out the holes for the control wires. The only problem I had was that after mounting the servos in their bays, I found that the supplied connection rods were each about 5mm too short. Not a problem as I just made a couple more but I could have avoided having to had I ignored the fitting template, fitted the servo and control rod and used that to check the positioning of the aileron control horns before fitting them. Guess I forgot the maxim "measure twice, cut once".
All in all, an easy build with the absence of instructions not proving to be a problem. Although the information is on the Hyperflight website, it wouldn't hurt for the model to come with a sheet detailing the recommended cog and control throws.
I would also suggest that people fit the cnc motor mount from Hyperflight as this significantly strengthens the nose as well as being easy to fit.
Overall weight excluding 2s lipo is 270g, so around 300g rtf.

Max flight f5kNeedless to say the quality of model is outstanding. Build of went well, a little fidly to get flap pushrods running smoothly , a little bending is advised . used the kst xo6 v6 servos plus plastic frames for the ailerons, cn 6x4 prop with Ldarc xt 1806 motor esc tallon 15a on 3s 300mah and altis nano, Auw 314g. Im familiar with f5k, got the fury and nrj, very happy with nrj, and the mf5k also has a narrow cord wing, will penetrate well in windy conditions and fly well in fair weather, still got to maiden. The plane is worth every penny. The 4 servo is ideal for f5k comp. with auw 270g rtf. The 6 servo just makes your landings easyer . Usual exellent Hyperflight sales and shipping. Thanks Neil
